Background: Neonatal resuscitation certification is essential for every neonatal doctors and nurses. In circumstances such as the Corona era, when face-to-face resuscitation training is not possible, this study was designed in order to produce a multimedia program for newborn resuscitation in Iran and to determine its effect on self-learning newborn resuscitation.

Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, instead of conducting a resuscitation workshop with the presence of learners, first by professors and providers in the skill lab, a multimedia program for neonatal resuscitation including handbook, videos and Power Points with lectures were produced. Then it was delivered to the learners. Eight weeks later, they were given a knowledge (theoretical) and 8 weeks later a practical real skill exam (Megacode) on the mannequin. The knowledge and skill scores obtained in the non-attendance group were compared with the knowledge and skill scores obtained in the attendance workshop of the previous courses. SPSS-18 used for statistical analysis and a P-value≤0.05 considered being significant.

Results: A total of 40 students, 20 in two groups, attended and non-attended, participated in this study. The mean score of resuscitation theory exam score was 18.95±0.88 in the non-attendance group and 17.90±1.18 in the attendance group (P-Value=0.003). The average score of Megacode exam in the non-attendance was 18.67±0.79 and in attendance group was 17.92±0.71 (P-Value=0.003).

Conclusion: This study showed that watching the multimedia program of newborn resuscitation and then practicing in the Skill lab can be effective in increasing the knowledge and skills of learners, just like attending resuscitation workshops.
