The prevalence of preterm delivery in women referred to health centers of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences,2012

Abstract

Introduction : Preterm delivery is defined as delivery before 37 weeks of gestation, approximately two-thirds of infant deaths in the first year of life is involved and is still considered as one of the major health problems. Incidence of preterm delivery in different studies mentioned , this study determined the frequency of this type of delivery in women admitted to health centers of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences .
Method: This retrospective study on Iranian women referred to health centers of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in the first six months of 2012 and  Information from the health records of 40,293 mothers who had given birth were extracted and analyzed.
Result : According to the findings of this study, mothers who had given birth less than 37 weeks, a total of 1,555 people are attending mothers who had given birth less than 37 weeks is 3.9%. percentage of twin births  was 1.2% and infants weighing less than 2,500 grams was equivalent to 5.6 percent
Conclusion : high morbidity and mortality in preterm newborn infants is associated with causes and preventive measures for reducing LBW infants seems necessary.
